GPTRACK50 has announced that its action RPG Stupid Never Dies will be released on October 21 for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. The studio, an independent outfit founded by former Capcom developer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, published a new trailer alongside the date.
Kobayashi's credits at Capcom include Dragon's Dogma and Resident Evil 6. Stupid Never Dies was first announced at last year's The Game Awards, and this is the first firm release window the studio has given it.
The game follows Davy, a shy and introverted zombie who sets out to bring a frozen human girl named Julia back to life. Davy sits at the bottom of a monster-ruled society, and the quest to revive Julia takes him through it. Players customise his undead body with upgrades and steal abilities from the enemies he consumes, a roster that includes demons, vampires, werewolves and ghosts.
The new trailer introduces Phoenix Zaza Hotfeathers, a character whose allegiance GPTRACK50 has not explained. A first piece of downloadable content, TickTock Teddies: Nonsense Overload, adds bonus background music and visual options.
The studio also announced a co-publishing agreement with Sega, and said the game's soundtrack will be available to stream on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music and other major services from August 4, ahead of release.
We are delighted and deeply grateful to Sega for their publishing partnership and support as we bring the first of many games from GPTRACK50 to players. Stupid Never Dies is an ambitious action game that introduces a number of original gameplay systems, and working with a publisher as experienced as Sega has been invaluable.
The phrasing of that statement — the first of many games — points to a longer relationship between the new studio and the publisher, though neither company has detailed further projects.
