Star Wars: The Old Republic's Game Update 7.9.1, titled Light and Shadow, is live. The patch is named for the new Galactic Season it introduces, but that season does not start for another two weeks, which makes this release largely groundwork on developer Broadsword's part.
Servers went down at 8 a.m. EDT and came back at 11 a.m. EDT, according to MassivelyOP's report on the rollout. The patch itself is the smaller half of the release, with the season it prepares still two weeks out.
Galactic Season 11 begins August 18
Galactic Season 11 Light and Shadow will begin August 18th and will operate similarly to Season 10. Rewards from Seasons 2 and 4 will be making their return including their respective companions, Fen Zeil and Amity. New rewards will also be added to the GS11 including customizations for both companions, a new armor, companion compatible mounts, titles, and Stronghold labels.
Fen Zeil and Amity were originally tied to Galactic Seasons 2 and 4, so their return puts both companions back within reach of players who did not complete those seasons. Broadsword says each also gains new customisation options in the eleventh season, alongside a new armour set, companion-compatible mounts, titles and Stronghold labels.
Outside the season itself, the update adds an accessories tab to the cash shop along with roughly thirty new accessories, a set of new dyes, and a run of bug fixes. Broadsword says the patch also prepares the game for the Feast of Prosperity event on October 6.
Broadsword also describes Galactic Season 11 as operating similarly to Season 10, so players who worked through the previous season should find the structure familiar rather than reworked.
Work on the next major version is already visible elsewhere: Game Update 8.0 reached the public test server the week before this patch shipped, so 7.9.1 arrives as a seasonal staging point rather than the studio's next big content step.
