Take-Two Interactive will report its Q1 FY2027 results on Friday, August 7, before the US market opens rather than after it closes. The change of slot has drawn attention because the publisher’s Rockstar Games is three months out from the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.
US publishers, Take-Two included, typically release results at 4pm ET and hold the analyst call half an hour later. PC Gamer reports that this call is scheduled for 8am ET, roughly eight and a half hours earlier than the company’s usual time; GameSpot reports the results themselves landing before the 9:30am ET open. PC Gamer says it checked Take-Two’s quarterly calendar back to the start of 2020 and found no previous instance of the company reporting on a Friday.
Take-Two’s head of global corporate communications, Alan Lewis, gave PC Gamer a straightforward explanation.
Just scheduling.
Why analysts are reading into it
Gabelli Funds portfolio manager Alec Boccanfuso told SeekingAlpha, in comments relayed by GameSpot, that the unusual timing could be a setup to give investors room to absorb a significant announcement before the results land. Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson has separately suggested the next Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer could arrive on Thursday, August 6. Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick has said the marketing push for the game would begin this summer, and PC Gamer notes that as of early August little of it has surfaced.
PC Gamer sets out two readings of the schedule change. One is a delay announcement: this is the last investor call with meaningful distance before the game’s release date, which would make it the moment to tell investors. The other is a marketing beat, with the company pairing a major trailer to an earnings call ahead of the holiday quarter. The outlet says it considers a trailer the more likely of the two but does not rule out a postponement, and notes that neither theory explains the 8am start on its own.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Freedom Capital Markets analyst Nick McKay has estimated the game could sell 30 million copies in its first three months, arguing the franchise is much larger now than when Grand Theft Auto 5 released in 2013.
