Tamriel Rebuilt's Poison Song expansion adds House Indoril to Morrowind

The long-running Morrowind mod's latest release opens Great House Indoril and the Temple Ordinators as joinable factions and adds the Orethan Fields region.

Tamriel Rebuilt, the long-running mod project that has been steadily building out the Morrowind mainland that The Elder Scrolls III left off its Vvardenfell-centred map, released its Poison Song expansion over the weekend. Rock Paper Shotgun reports that the update opens two of the province's most storied institutions to players and adds a new region to explore.

The headline addition is Great House Indoril, the Dunmer house that stood as the Tribunal Temple's firmest supporters and that the 2002 base game never made joinable. The mod team has given it a questline it describes as similar in scope to those of the three joinable houses Bethesda shipped. Players who want a badge rather than a banner can instead enlist with the Temple Ordinators, Morrowind's golden-masked lawkeepers, whose ranks the expansion splits across three separate orders.

Three Ordinator orders, three routes in

  • The Order of Doctrine, based in the new Orethan Fields region, concerned with separating orthodoxy from heresy.
  • The Order of the Watch, based in Almas Thirr, whose missions turn on a conflict between the Indoril and Hlaalu houses.
  • The Order of War, also in Almas Thirr, which is oriented toward preparing for the main quest's confrontation with Dagoth Ur.

The Orethan Fields themselves sit on the outskirts of Mournhold, the Dunmer capital that the base game's Tribunal expansion built its story around. The region takes in the settlement of Othrenis and the chapel of Nanaav, and Rock Paper Shotgun describes the trailer footage as leaning Japanese-inspired, with manicured greenery, cherry blossom trees and well-appointed estates set against the rockier, dustier terrain the series established outside Vvardenfell's coasts.

Poison Song also revisits older ground. The expansion revamps the Sundered Scar, the region scarred by Red Mountain, and reworks the quests in the Imperial-dominated city of Old Ebonheart. Tamriel Rebuilt had first teased the release late last year.

What the team is building next

The project is not stopping here. Writing about the team's plans now that Poison Song has shipped, Tamriel Rebuilt developer Sultan of Rum set out the next two expansions in the roadmap.

Next up will be Wealth Beyond Measure, the final expansion in our Hlaalu arc. Players should look forward to a filled out southwestern quadrant of Morrowind along with the metropolis of Kragenmoor. Level design for this expansion is mostly complete and questing progresses.

After that, the team's attention turns to a first expansion themed around House Redoran in Morrowind's northwest, which Sultan of Rum said is deep in its level design phase.

Poison Song is available now through Nexus Mods and GOG. Players need a copy of Morrowind with all of its DLC installed to run it either way.
