Team Liquid have taken the world first Mythic kill on the Coiled Altar, the penultimate boss of World of Warcraft's Venomous Abyss raid, after 310 pulls. The kill, reported by Wowhead on August 30, leaves Ula'tek as the only encounter between the guild and the finale of the Race to World First.
The fight ran to more than 300 attempts across several days of progression and held every one of the race's top ten competitors at the same position. Wowhead compared it to Mug'zee in Liberation of Undermine and Tindral in Amirdrassil, both of which stalled the field at the same point in their own raids.
Two rounds of tuning shaped the encounter. The first nerf significantly reduced its second-phase damage check; the second was reverted shortly after it went out, leaving guilds grinding a fight Wowhead described as demanding vantus runes, near-perfect play and even a little luck.
By raw pull count the Coiled Altar is not the hardest boss on record. By total progression time, Wowhead ranked it among the most difficult penultimate encounters World of Warcraft has had. Liquid also hold the raid's Entombed Sentinels world first, taken earlier in the race.

Liquid took the boss down with two tanks, five healers, four melee and nine ranged. A Guardian Druid and a Protection Paladin held the tank slots, with two Preservation Evokers, two Discipline Priests and a Restoration Shaman healing behind them.
The melee core was a Havoc Demon Hunter, a Windwalker Monk, a Subtlety Rogue and an Arms Warrior. The ranged group ran a Balance Druid, an Augmentation Evoker, two Marksmanship Hunters, two Arcane Mages, a Shadow Priest and two Affliction Warlocks.
