Team Liquid take the world first Mythic Entombed Sentinels kill

The guild's kill moves it to the front of the Venomous Abyss Race to World First after a run of very low-percentage wipes.

Team Liquid has taken the world first Mythic kill on the Entombed Sentinels, moving to the front of the Venomous Abyss Race to World First, Wowhead reported. The guild reached the kill after a run of attempts that ended in very low-percentage wipes, with the encounter's enrage timer proving the last obstacle rather than its mechanics.

The encounter asks a raid to split, dodge, soak and work through a numbers puzzle at the same time. Wowhead describes it as a fight that sounds straightforward and is not: clearing the enrage window takes a level of damage efficiency that took Liquid several pulls to reach, even once the group had settled on how to handle the mechanics themselves.

The numbers are what separate the Mythic version from the difficulties below it. On Mythic the numbers mechanic turns invisible, so raiders cannot read their own assignment off the screen. Liquid's answer was positional rather than technical: every player assigned a two cleared out underneath the boss and every player assigned a one stayed put and jumped on the spot, leaving the threes able to find them in a raid that was otherwise unreadable. Wowhead calls the approach surprisingly simple for a mechanic that removes its own visual cue.

The composition Liquid used

Wowhead also published the twenty-player composition Liquid brought to the kill. Nine of the twenty slots went to ranged damage and five to melee, with four healers and two tanks completing the group.

  • Tanks: Blood Death Knight and Guardian Druid
  • Healers: two Preservation Evokers, a Holy Paladin and a Discipline Priest
  • Melee: Unholy Death Knight, Windwalker Monk, Subtlety Rogue and two Arms Warriors
  • Ranged: Devourer Demon Hunter, Balance Druid, Devastation Evoker, two Marksmanship Hunters, Arcane Mage, Frost Mage, Elemental Shaman and Destruction Warlock

Three specialisations appear twice in that list: Preservation Evoker among the healers, Arms Warrior in the melee group and Marksmanship Hunter at range. Death Knights fill slots on opposite sides of the raid, with Blood tanking and Unholy in the melee core.

The race is still running. Warcraft Logs, which supplied the boss images used in Wowhead's report, is publishing its own real-time coverage of the Venomous Abyss progression.
