Teamfight Tactics will not be playable on macOS when Set 18, "Enchanted Wilds," unlocks on Wednesday, August 26 with patch 18.1. Polygon reports that the set arrives on a build that has moved to Unreal Engine, and that the engine change is what has left the Mac version behind.
The development team has said it has made progress on a macOS build, but there is no expected release date for it. On every other platform the swap is presentational rather than structural: Teamfight Tactics is the same game in the new engine, will feel a little different to play, and aims to run on its own client a few patches into the set. The team has also flagged that a shift this size is likely to surface bugs, and has asked players to report what they run into.
Charms come back as Wisps
The set's headline mechanic is a returning one. Charms, which debuted in Set 12: "Magic N' Mayhem," come back in Enchanted Wilds under the name Wisps: powerful effects bought from the shop that either buff a board or hand a player extra economy. The buying rules are specific.
- A Wisp appears in the rightmost slot of the shop, taking the place of a unit
- Players can buy one Wisp per round
- Buying the Wisp reveals the unit that was originally in that slot
- If the Wisp is not bought, a new one appears every other shop
Set 18 also brings a batch of new units, with jungle minions stepping into the arena for the first time.
When Set 18 unlocks
Riot Games patches regionally, so Oceania servers receive the update first and North America waits longest. Polygon's unlock times are estimates drawn from previous set releases and the League of Legends update cadence rather than from an official schedule.
- NA: 7 a.m. PDT / 10 a.m. EDT
- EUW: 9 a.m. BST / 10 a.m. CEST
- EUNE: 8 a.m. EEST
- OCE: 9 a.m. AEST
Maintenance windows vary, so servers can come back up earlier or later than those figures. Polygon notes the one way to play ahead of a local unlock is to make an Oceania account and accept the ping disadvantage.
