Terraria 1.4.5.7 arrives unannounced with 36 new items and a combat overhaul

Re-Logic pushed the PC build out ahead of gamescom and says the crossplay update 1.4.6 is next.

Re-Logic has released Terraria update 1.4.5.7 on PC with almost no advance notice, five months after the previous patch. Billed as the last hotfix for the Bigger and Boulder update barring critical fixes, it adds 36 new items, reworks large parts of combat and introduces two more secret seeds, PCGamesN reports.

The studio had intended to ship the update on PC and console together. Head of business strategy Ted “Loki” Murphy said the schedule forced its hand.

But with Gamescom coming up next week we had to make the call to get PC out now.

The combat pass touches every damage class. Gem Staves and Gem Robes have been reworked so each Staff variant has a unique shot effect, the Robe applies its own effect to the Staff, and matching a set grants bonus damage. Mana no longer has a regeneration delay, but regenerates significantly more slowly while attacking; the base rate is lower, improves as mana runs out, and doubles when standing still. Mana Stars now apply a brief 20% magic damage buff and are no longer pulled in by players at full mana who are not using a magic weapon.

Weapon reworks in 1.4.5.7

  • Most Hardmode Yoyos gain unique effects: Cascade applies explosions, Format:C deals bonus super-crits, Kraken spins a whirlpool, Chik bursts crystal shards, and the Eye of Cthulhu Yoyo summons an Eye of Cthulhu on hit.
  • Chlorophyte Claymore leaves damaging spore clouds; Chlorophyte Saber becomes a stabbing weapon with a damage-over-time debuff.
  • Paladin’s Hammer swings as a melee weapon before it is thrown, and is significantly larger.
  • Cursed Darts pierce up to three enemies and Venom Bullets inflict a stronger “Potent Venom” in a splashing cone.
  • Whip stacking returns, but only with the proper accessories equipped, and whip tag effects now resolve independently of the order they are applied.

Quality-of-life changes round out the patch. Items intended for a specific player in multiplayer are temporarily reserved for them, favourited equipment can be shared between loadouts, the respawn timer can be skipped when there is no immediate danger, and the final boss fight gives more warning on some attacks. Biome chest loot has been widened, locked chests can be opened by using the key directly on them, and a new item, Guide to Old Style Parkour, restores movement techniques removed in 1.4.5. The Palworld Pals added in 1.4.5 can be empowered with a new Kinship Peach item, and the Distressed Pal event now triggers more often.

Patch 1.4.5.7 is live on PC, with console and mobile versions to follow. Re-Logic says the next release should be the crossplay phase one update, numbered 1.4.6.
