Ubisoft has set November 3 as the release date for The Division 2: Echoes of Central Park, the expansion it announced at Gamescom over the summer. The date was confirmed on Thursday alongside a gameplay reveal and a cinematic trailer shown during an Echoes of Central Park showcase.
It is the first substantial look at the expansion since the announcement, and it lands two days before The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5.
What the expansion adds
Echoes of Central Park makes Central Park an explorable location in the series for the first time. The park was used as a mass burial ground during the original outbreak and is now overgrown, with rumours circulating about what is inside it. The campaign opens when the Division intercepts a distress signal from deep within the park and sends agents to investigate, and Ubisoft has said it is leaning on horror more heavily than in previous Division expansions, building the story around paranoia and rumour.
The expansion also adds the Upper West Side, with a map stretching from Lincoln Square to the Dakota District. The campaign can be played solo or in co-op, and three companions — Brayleigh Callahan, Elwood Franklin and Morse Feeney — can be brought along.
Ubisoft Massive also described a new endgame system that starts players without their usual technology and advantages, casting them as prey. As they learn more about the park and acquire gear, the balance shifts and they can become the hunters; performance in those encounters determines the rewards on each run.
Six new skill variants are included, among them a gas bomber and a corrosive trap, along with a new gear set and an Exotic weapon called The Ratel.
The Division 2: Echoes of Central Park releases November 3 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
