Tom Clancy's The Division Resurgence, Ubisoft's free-to-play entry in the Division series, has arrived on Steam, and its user review rating currently sits at "Mixed", with 46 percent of reviews leaning positive.
The game took an unusual route to Valve's storefront. It launched first on mobile, then came to PC in April through Ubisoft Connect, the launcher previously known as Uplay. It reached Steam earlier this month, where, PC Gamer reports, it has not had the warmest welcome.
According to PC Gamer's account of the review page, the recurring complaints are login problems, mouse bugs, and a combination of underwhelming rewards and what players describe as overwhelming microtransactions.
Calling it slop disrespects actual slop
That review goes on to compare the game's monetisation unfavourably with gacha titles and to criticise its interface, arguing that players spend more time managing menus than playing missions. A second review quoted by the outlet focuses on progression instead, saying loot is locked behind daily completions that can only be run a handful of times a day before experience and rewards scale down sharply. It describes the result as a daily log-in routine rather than a looter-shooter, and points players back to the first two Division games.
What Resurgence is
Like the mainline entries, The Division Resurgence is a third-person shooter in which the player is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division working to restore order after the "Green Flu" epidemic reduces the United States to chaos. It shares its setting with the first game, putting players in New York and sending them across locations including Liberty Island and the New York Stock Exchange.
The loot on offer for that work is largely cosmetic, running to variations on tactical beanies and baseball caps.
The game remains free to play, and is available on Steam, on PC through Ubisoft Connect, and on mobile.
