Aesir Interactive has released the Corruption Update for The Legend of Khiimori, adding a supernatural blight to the 13th-century Mongolian courier game and pushing it further toward survival play, Rock Paper Shotgun reports.
A mysterious force called 'Savdag-un khor' (poison of the earth spirit) now spreads across the land, corrupting wildlife, twisting the environment, and opening dangerous rifts throughout the world. Players must craft new tools, push deeper into the corruption and fight to restore balance while managing expanded survival mechanics and exploring new frontiers.
In play, the corruption appears as purple patches and pockets laid across the map, along with rifts and corrupted zones. Those areas spawn new hostile wildlife that Aesir calls Knots and Gnarls, turning stretches of the map that were previously traversal into combat encounters.
Clearing the corruption
Couriers are expected to clear the blighted patches as they run deliveries, rather than routing around them. Rock Paper Shotgun reports two new tools for that job: cleansing arrows and warding totems. The update also adds a horse breed, the Breton, which Aesir describes as the largest and strongest in the game so far — positioning it as a late-game mount.
The change is a notable shift for a game whose appeal to date has rested on unhurried riding across open plains and on its delivery loop, with survival mechanics in a supporting role. Rock Paper Shotgun frames the corrupted zones as closer in spirit to a creature-driven action game than to the historically grounded riding sim the game has presented itself as.
The Legend of Khiimori entered early access in March. Aesir has not said whether the corruption content is a one-off addition or the start of a longer arc for the game, and the outlet does not report a figure for how much of the map the blight covers.
