Ultima Online's next content update reaches the test server this week. Publish 124 leads with Shardfall, a new event that follows the Spritelight and Moonveil activities that ran on the live shards earlier this summer, MassivelyOP reports.
Shardfall is framed around the destruction of the Gem of Immortality and the defeat of Mondain the Wizard. The official description asks players to donate supplies to Britannia's cities in preparation for a fireworks celebration, and to take part in the Echoes of Mondain Encounter, which is offered at two difficulty settings aimed at experienced characters. The event ends by naming a Champion of Britannia.
What else is in the build
Beyond the event, Publish 124 carries a set of smaller changes. The Melisande peerless encounter is being updated, new stealable items are being added, and a hair dye unlock system is going in. The build also lays groundwork for the game's 29th anniversary, which falls next month.

The runebook change is the quietest item on the list and the one most likely to be felt daily. Players who maintain large rune libraries have had no way to reorganise them in place, and MassivelyOP singled the addition out as its own favourite in the update.
The rest of the summer
The official site sets out what follows the publish. Weekend events begin on August 14. Work continues on the classic client update, a longer-running project that has been progressing alongside the regular content releases. The second season of New Legacy, the separate ruleset shard, is also on the schedule.
No live date has been given for Publish 124. Ultima Online publishes go to the test server first, so the build reaching test this week is the step before a live rollout rather than the rollout itself, and the anniversary timing next month gives the schedule its next fixed point.
