Sony has dated Until Dawn 2 for January 28, 2027, announcing the PlayStation 5 release during its State of Play showcase on September 3. Firesprite's Stu Tilley set out the date in a post on the PlayStation Blog, which was republished for Southeast Asia on September 4 with regional pricing. Polygon reported the sequel is exclusive to PlayStation 5.
The game follows Dead True, a crew of ghost-hunting YouTubers whose staged scares give way to real ones. Sony's post said the trailer opens with the team filming at Blackwood Sanitorium — which Polygon identified as the setting of the 2015 original — where new intern Izzy, played by Sarah Catherine Hook, uncovers something unexpected. At HorrorCon in Sydney the crew meets Yoona, played by Gia Kim, a survivor of a supernatural attack whose warning sends them to Akishima Island, a remote South Pacific island abandoned since a luxury resort shut down in the 1970s.
Choices in the trailer
Sony described a decision facing Owen, played by Dacre Montgomery, between following a signal toward his missing friend Nate, played by Spence Moore II, and crossing a rickety bridge to investigate a bar. Polygon reported that a cast member who takes a rope bridge in the trailer dies when it collapses. Another decision hands co-host Mina the network's demand for a ritual sacrifice staged live on camera, with the on-screen options reading Sacrifice rooster and Slash palm in Polygon's account; the PlayStation Blog refers to the animal as the team's chicken companion.
Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Hill, the psychiatrist from the first game. Eurogamer wrote that Sony has not yet explained how the character fits the new story. Polygon reported that the trailer also shows a wendigo, the original game's monster, attacking the Dead True crew.
Until Dawn 2 is being developed by Firesprite, the Sony-owned Liverpool studio behind Horizon Call of the Mountain and The Persistence, rather than Supermassive Games, which made the original and went on to the Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry. AdHoc Studio, the developer of Dispatch, is working with Firesprite on the narrative. Eurogamer noted the sequel follows the 2024 Until Dawn remake and trades the first game's snowbound alpine resort for a tropical setting. Polygon said the cast also includes Neil Newbon.
Pre-orders and editions
Pre-orders for the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions open September 10. IGN and Eurogamer reported that pre-order content covers an Until Dawn classic outfit, an Akishima Island holiday outfit and Dr. Hill collector's bobbleheads to find in-game. The Digital Deluxe Edition, which Eurogamer said also arrives January 28, adds the Y2K Neon Vibes Pack of neon costumes for all eight Dead True members, named as Owen, Mina, Nate, Reagan, Izzy, Luke, Josie and Cameron, plus Diorama of Death, a set of vignettes replaying each fatal outcome.
The Southeast Asia version of the PlayStation Blog post listed pre-order pricing from September 10 of SGD 64, MYR 209, IDR 729,000, THB 1,690, PHP 3,023 and VND 1,249,000 for the Standard Edition on disc and digital, and SGD 77, MYR 249, IDR 879,000 and THB 1,990 for the Digital Deluxe Edition.
