Valheim has added a console command that lets players who previously used cheats or mods start earning achievements again. Dexerto reported the change, which arrived in a hotfix Iron Gate released on September 11.
The survival game's 1.0 update added more than 50 achievements, and using developer commands could block a player from unlocking any of them. Not every command did: Iron Gate listed freefly as an exception. Most of the others, including spawn, previously flagged both the player's character and their world save as permanently ineligible.
Those restrictions are no longer in place. The hotfix adds a command that players blocked by devcommands or mods can enter to opt back in, and the phrase Iron Gate chose is deliberately unwieldy: with console commands enabled, the player types yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway.
The fixes include a function to let you opt into using achievements even though you have been blocked from doing so because of previous usage of devcommands.
In the hotfix announcement, the studio left the decision to players. "We will leave it to your own judgement whether or not to activate this function — Oden will surely know if you use it dishonourably," Iron Gate wrote.
Steam first, other platforms later
The hotfix is available on Steam, and Iron Gate said the fixes will be brought to other platforms in a further update.
Console commands are off by default on the Steam version. Enabling them means right-clicking Valheim in the Steam library, opening Properties, adding -console to the Launch Options field on the General tab, and then launching the game. The console window is opened and closed with F5.
Valheim left Early Access on September 9. Its 1.0 update added the Deep North biome alongside the achievements, plus new weapons, enemies, armor, food and other content.
