Warzone Season 4 Reloaded Nerfs Stim in the Gas, Ending the "Stim-Off" Meta

Raven Software has landed a significant blow against one of Warzone's most contested endgame tactics. The Season 4 Reloaded update targets so-called "gas plays" — a strategy where players duck into the lethal out-of-bounds zone to reposition, flank, or simply outlast opponents — by cutting Stim effectiveness dramatically while inside the gas. The patch specifically addresses the "Stim-off" meta that had become particularly prevalent in Ranked and competitive play, where matches would stall out as players stockpiled Stims and extended their survival well beyond the intended circle pressure. Two interlocking changes now make that approach far less tenable.

What Changed with the Stim

The headline adjustment is a 40% reduction to Stim health regeneration while a player is inside the gas zone. That is not a marginal tuning pass — it means players now need to burn through roughly twice as many Stims to sustain the same amount of time outside the safe zone as before. In matches where Stim supply is finite, that math collapses the viability of extended gas-camping almost entirely. Outside the gas, Stim remains untouched, preserving its value as a combat tool for rapid health regeneration during engagements in the playable area.

Supply Boxes in the Gas Are Going Dark

Raven also addressed the supply side of the equation by disabling loot boxes located deep within the gas. The distance threshold for what qualifies as "deep" tightens as matches progress. In Circle 1, boxes within 40 meters of the boundary remain off-limits — that number was already in place. In Circle 2, the threshold narrows to 30 meters, and from Circle 3 onward it drops further to 25 meters. The studio framed this as closing a loop that allowed players to replenish their Stim stock while already camped in the gas, calling it one of several "unintended gameplay patterns" that "disproportionately rewarded players who remained outside the playable area."

The Intent Behind the Crackdown

Gas plays as a concept are not being removed outright. According to the patch notes, developers believe the strategy should remain "a risky gamble and situational, but viable" — the goal is to cap how long and how safely a player can exploit the tactic, not eliminate it as an option entirely. Using the gas to reposition or catch an enemy off guard mid-rotation is still on the table; parking there indefinitely while topping up health from a nearby loot box is not. The Stim-off meta drew criticism largely because it turned late-game circles into a war of attrition dictated by inventory management rather than positioning or gunfight skill. Matches in Ranked lobbies were frequently decided not by a final firefight but by which squad had hoarded enough Stims to outlast everyone else. With Season 4 Reloaded, Raven Software is pushing Warzone's endgame back toward spatial decision-making and combat. Players who relied on gas plays as a consistent competitive option will need to rethink their late-game strategy — the supply lines that made those plays sustainable have been cut.
