Wizards dates six Magic: The Gathering sets for 2027 at MagicCon Amsterdam

Wizards of the Coast has published a full 2027 release calendar for Magic: The Gathering, revealed at MagicCon: Amsterdam and reported by Polygon. The year holds six sets — three in-universe expansions and three Universes Beyond crossovers — along with four MagicCon events. Three more sets are still due in 2026.

The Universes Beyond slate drops from four sets in 2026 to three in 2027, dated April 9, August 6 and November 19. Wizards did not say what any of them will cross over with, and Polygon expects those details to wait until MagicCon: Atlanta in autumn 2026.

The in-universe sets

• Nauctis: The Sunken Realm — February 5, 2027. A new underwater plane; few details have been shared.
• Kamigawa: Titanbreach — June 4, 2027. The Japan-inspired plane of Kamigawa is invaded by the monster-filled world of Ikoria, pitting giant creatures against mecha pilots.
• Zhalfir — October 1, 2027. The first set built around Teferi’s homeland, now a plane in its own right.

Zhalfir is the entry Polygon expects to land hardest with long-time players. Once a kingdom on Magic’s original plane of Dominaria, it was phased out of normal space and time by Teferi ahead of the first Phyrexian invasion and only restored during the second, when it and New Phyrexia effectively swapped places in the multiverse.

That swap carries consequences for the set’s contents. The five suns of Mirrodin now orbit Zhalfir, and refugees from the original Mirrodin have been taken in, which Polygon reads as a route back for familiar characters, card types and archetypes — Mirrodin was where affinity for artifacts was introduced. Karn, who created Mirrodin, is flagged as a likely figure in the story.

The calendar answers when rather than what for half the year: the three Universes Beyond sets remain blank entries on a schedule that is otherwise fully mapped out more than a year ahead.
