Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will launch on March 4, 2027, publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Team Ninja announced on September 16 in a post on the PlayStation Blog. An alpha demo for the dark action RPG went live the same day and runs until September 30.
The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and IGN reported it will be available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on day one. The demo is playable on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The demo covers part of the Changban stage, one of the Three Kingdoms battlefields the full game is set on. The post said players cross demon-infested territory and fight legendary figures from the period using a Chinese martial arts system the team described as balancing offense and defense. A trailer released alongside the demo shows the protagonist and those historical figures fighting through the same setting.
What the alpha demo includes
Combat centres on Deflect, which nullifies and redirects enemy attacks, alongside a set of Martial Arts techniques and weapons. The sequel adds Insight Skills, which the post said enhance the protagonist’s actions: staving off and countering enemy attacks, sending foes crashing into walls, or slamming enemies that strike from above into the ground.
Multiplayer co-op and character creation are both playable in the demo; IGN reported the demo supports online multiplayer for up to three players and includes an in-progress character creator. Defeating the boss Wuzhiqi awards the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet for use in the full game, and the development team asked demo players to fill in a feedback survey before the game is finished.
Open battlefields and an original story
Battlefields including Changban and the Red Cliffs are built as open fields holding enemy strongholds and demonic lairs. The post said how players approach them is up to them, with options to flank enemy lines, capture bases, set traps or recruit enemy generals to turn a battle.
The story is an original one set in a dark fantasy version of the Three Kingdoms, where elixirs of immortality and demons drawn from Chinese classical literature sit alongside the era’s warriors. Characters from the first game continue to play important roles, and the post said the narrative is built so that newcomers to the series can follow it.
The sequel follows Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, which Dexerto reported has reached seven million players. IGN said Wo Long 2 was announced at the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase.
Pre-orders opened on September 16. The digital pre-order bonus is the Creator Goddess Garb set, and a Digital Deluxe Edition bundles the Season Pass, a digital mini soundtrack and a digital mini art book.
