World of Warcraft's Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek, went live on August 10 as the first major content drop of the Midnight expansion, according to PCGamesN. It introduces a new instance type called a Lair, a new dungeon, and a new zone, and sets up Season 2, which opens on Tuesday, August 18.
The patch moves Midnight's campaign away from Silvermoon City and the Voidspire and out to an island called the Coiled Isle, where the Blood Elf paladin Arator deals with the fallout of earlier events. PCGamesN describes the island as filled with public events and rare elites, and it carries its own talent tree that players unlock and rank up — including a Venomwalking effect that cuts venom damage taken while travelling the zone.
Dungeons, raids and difficulty
A new dungeon, the Altar of Fangs, arrives with the patch alongside a refreshed rotation that includes Den of Nalorakk, Murder Row and Ruby Life Pools. Heroic and Mythic 0 are available now, with Mythic 0 dropping item level 292 gear on a weekly lockout until Season 2, when it switches to a daily reset.
Season 2 of Delves and Prey is already live. The Venomous Abyss raid, populated by the Coiled Isle's serpentine bosses, opens with Season 2 on August 18, which is also when difficulty scaling arrives for the new Lair instance and when Great Vault gear, Mythic+ and the higher Delve difficulties come online.
On the PvP side, Arenas have been added to the Training Grounds for players who want to practise the format without queueing against other players.
Player housing also gains two additions. Blueprint codes let players share and import house designs from one another, and a new Pet Bed item lets a selection of battle pets live in a player's house, with some of them wandering the interior.
