World of Warcraft's Northrend Cup returns with no new rewards

The skyriding race event runs from August 25 to September 8, with the vendor stocked with returning cosmetics rather than new ones.

The Northrend Cup is live again in World of Warcraft, running from August 25 to September 8. The event sends players through a slate of skyriding races across Northrend, with courses offered in Normal, Advanced and Reverse variations.

Wowhead notes that this year's running appears to add no new rewards. Instead, the vendor stock is made up of cosmetics from previous years that players may have missed, including the Vial of Endless Draconic Scales toy, which randomizes mount customizations on every mount, and pieces of the Icy Drake Racer's transmog set.

The starting quest comes from Lord Andestrasz in Valdrakken, near the Rostrum of Transformation, and the event can also be picked up in Stormwind City, Orgrimmar and Northrend itself. Races use the original Dragonflight skyriding mounts; players who do not own one are handed a loaner Riders of Azeroth Drake for the duration of a race.

The courses

  • Blackriver Burble (Grizzly Hills)
  • Citadel Sortie (Icecrown)
  • Coldarra Climb (Coldarra)
  • Crystalsong Crisis (Crystalsong Forest)
  • Daggercap Dart (Howling Fjord)
  • Dragonblight Dragon Flight (Dragonblight)
  • Geothermal Jaunt (Borean Tundra)
  • Gundrak Fast Track (Zul'drak)
  • The Maker's Marathon (The Storm Peaks)
  • Scalawag Slither (Howling Fjord)
  • Sholazar Spree (Sholazar Basin)
  • Zul'drak Zephyr (Zul'drak)

Badges and rewards

Completing race activities earns Riders of Azeroth Badges, the event currency. Badges are spent with Maztha at the Riders of Azeroth headquarters in Valdrakken, or with Dathendrash at the equivalent posts in Stormwind City and Orgrimmar.

The vendor list covers the eight-piece Icy Drake Racer's set, from helmet and scarf through to leggings and boots, along with the Drake Racer's Scarf and the Checkered Pennant. Four dragon customizations are also on offer: the Renewed Proto-Drake's Dual Horned Crest, the Windborne Velocidrake's Curled Horns, the Highland Drake's Swept Spiked Head and the Cliffside Wylderdrake's Large Tail Spikes. Skymaster's Blood pieces, including a circlet, pauldrons, tabard, cloak and mantle, round out the armor options. Players who have bought everything can convert leftover badges into Valdrakken Accord Insignia on repeat.

Clearing every Northrend Cup race on Gold awards the Northrend Racing Completionist: Gold achievement, the Northrend Racer title and the Frosted Riders of Azeroth Tabard.
