The World of Warcraft China operations team has disqualified more than 24,000 characters from Midnight Season 1 end-of-season rewards, in a penalty announcement dated September 1, 2026 and translated by Wowhead. The action covers 21,310 characters in PvP and 3,179 in Mythic Keystone content.
The operations team said it was acting under the Midnight Special Enforcement Announcement on In-Game Violations and to uphold the spirit of competition and fairness in Azeroth. It said the characters had obtained high-ranking rewards improperly through account sharing, including piloting and boosting, and through rating manipulation, match-fixing and other prohibited activity. Wowhead said the lists of affected characters published for each activity run to more than 400 combined pages.
The Mythic Keystone group loses the top 1% mount reward, Umbral Ashes, along with the top 0.1% seasonal title and the associated achievements and other high-ranking rewards. Those rewards pass down the rankings to the next eligible players. On the PvP side, the Season 1 Gladiator mount Galactic Gladiator's Goredrake is being revoked together with the associated high-rated titles and transmog rewards, with the penalties applied across the whole Battle.net account rather than the individual character. The operations team said the affected PvP players will also receive account suspensions.
The statement also said account sharing, piloting, boosting and rating manipulation are prohibited in all forms, and that the team would continue to monitor and investigate the same categories of violation in Season 2, including attempts to evade enforcement through unconventional methods.
Do not assume that such conduct will escape detection or punishment.
Midnight Season 2 is already underway. Wowhead noted that in a recent PC Gamer interview, senior game director Ion Hazzikostas said Blizzard is reviewing the top 1% of Mythic+ runs for paid boosts and will share the results of that review with the community.
