WoW patch 12.1 opens the Coiled Isle with a dungeon and renown track

Blizzard detailed the zone's campaign chapters, Curse Surge events, the Altar of Corrosion and a new venom fishing system.

Blizzard has published a blog post setting out the content arriving on the Coiled Isle, the zone added in World of Warcraft patch 12.1, Wowhead reports.

The zone opens as the mists around the island part, revealing a landmass steeped in ancient Amani history and venomous hazards. The campaign follows Zul'jarra as she pursues her brother, Zul'jan, with players aiding her forces as they work to reclaim the island.

What the zone adds

  • New campaign chapters set on the island
  • A Zul'jarra's Forces renown track
  • The Altar of Fangs dungeon
  • Activities in the Vaults of Atal'Utek
  • The Altar of Corrosion progression system
  • A venom fishing system
  • New mounts, pets, cosmetics and housing rewards

Curse Surges are the zone's open-world event, sending rare elite enemies into the world for players to fight. The Altar of Corrosion sits alongside them as a progression system players use to strengthen their characters as they work through the island's caustic depths. Blizzard also describes riches hidden in the isle's cursed waters, reachable through the new venom fishing content.

The zone is presented as a continuation of the patch's campaign rather than as standalone content, with the island's buried secrets uncovered over the course of the new chapters rather than opened up at once.

Renown begins before landfall

Players start accumulating renown with Zul'jarra's Forces before reaching the Coiled Isle at all, through a series of quests in Zul'Aman that involve aiding Lady Liadrin, Orweyna and Zul'jarra.

Zul'jarra's Forces serves as the primary renown faction for the zone. Blizzard said players earn renown by progressing the campaign, completing activities across the island and aiding the Amani resistance, with each rank unlocking rewards, cosmetics, progression bonuses and profession opportunities.

Rewards are bought from the renown quartermaster, Jan'sari the Watchful, in Tokka's Landing. Items are purchased with Voidlight Marl, while Artisan Moxies cover profession-specific goods. The renown track and a player's progress through it can be viewed in the Adventure Guide.
