Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has set out four priorities for Microsoft's gaming business in a memo obtained by The Verge, Dexerto reported. The document follows the division's restructuring and states a goal of returning to player and revenue growth by the end of fiscal year 2027 while improving profitability, after what Microsoft has described as a major reset of the business.
Dexerto reported the four priorities as written in the memo:
- CORE: Strengthen our platform, led by console
- CONTENT: Grow great games into global franchises
- CREATION: Make Minecraft the world's creator platform
- CONNECTION: Extend the worlds that fans love
Every Xbox team and studio is responsible for helping the company hit the fiscal 2027 target, according to the memo. It also calls for Xbox's biggest franchises to expand beyond games into film, television, consumer products, sponsorships, live experiences and new global partnerships.
Minecraft at the centre
Sharma pledged to invest in Minecraft "more than ever before", Dexerto reported, with the sandbox game placed at the centre of Xbox's long-term strategy. The stated aim is for Minecraft to become "the world's creator platform", building on player-created content while expanding the tools available to creators.
We will not live on past successes or be trapped by past failures. We will learn from both and put our energy into creating what players will love for decades.
After a year of cuts
The roadmap follows months of upheaval at Xbox. Sharma replaced Phil Spencer as CEO in February, Dexerto reported, and Microsoft has since cut thousands of jobs across its gaming division and restructured several studios. The company said at the time that those changes were necessary to return the business to long-term growth.
The memo does not set out product commitments beyond the four priorities, and Dexerto reported no specific figures for the investment in Minecraft.
