Y'shtola Surpasses Ur-Dragon

According to Polygon, Y'shtola, Night's Blessed has surpassed The Ur-Dragon as the most popular Magic: The Gathering Commander on EDHREC. This change in popularity was confirmed by EDHREC in a blog post, which noted that Y'shtola, Night's Blessed has been available for just shy of 15 months.

Polygon reported that Y'shtola, Night's Blessed has 49,813 decks currently registered to the site, achieving this milestone in 425 days. The Ur-Dragon had previously held the top spot, having surpassed Atraxa, Praetors' Voice less than a week before Y'shtola's release, thanks to a boost from the dragon-heavy 2025 set Tarkir: Dragonstorm.

Polygon attributed Y'shtola's enduring popularity to her being a character from a hugely popular MMORPG, as well as her availability as the headliner in one of Final Fantasy's four preconstructed Commander decks. This has helped her maintain interest among players, unlike many other Commanders which see a spike in popularity upon release but then experience a decline in interest.
