GunZ: The Duel is back on Steam. Developer Masangsoft relaunched the 2003-era Korean action shooter on Thursday, August 13, MassivelyOP reports, with the studio presenting the release as another beginning for a game that has now been revived more than once.
The returning version is free to play. Masangsoft says it comes with improved graphics and a rebuilt user interface while preserving the original feel and controls, which places it closer to a remaster than a reworking of how the game plays.
K-style, again
The studio’s description leans on the movement system the game is remembered for, the K-style combat built out of wall-running, dashing and chaining combos together, across both competitive PvP and co-operative PvE play. Players can also customise their fighter, as in previous versions.
To mark the relaunch, Masangsoft is running a series of special events over the next couple of months, handing out extra in-game goodies to players who pick the game up now or return to it after a break.
A shooter that keeps coming back
GunZ has an unusually long afterlife for an online shooter. MassivelyOP notes that the original service died in 2013 before the game came back in 2016, alongside a sequel, and this latest return makes at least the third life for a title first launched more than two decades ago.
The outlet places GunZ in the company of Bless Online and Hellgate: London, online games that appear destined to be relaunched indefinitely. For now, the free client is live on Steam, with the studio’s event schedule set to run for roughly the next two months.
