According to GameSpot, Disney has invested over $1.5 billion in Epic Games to create synergies between Fortnite and its theme park business. As revealed at Disney's D23 event, Fortnite is now integrating with the Smuggler's Run ride at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. This integration allows players to unlock content in Fortnite by collecting crates in the Smuggler's Run ride.
GameSpot reports that a new Fortnite island called Smugglers Gambit has been added, which takes place on the planet Ord Ryla. In this island, players can team up with friends, complete co-op missions, battle pirates and Imperial remnants, and unlock new gear. To access this content, players need to connect their Epic Games and MyDisney accounts.
As part of this collaboration, Disney is offering exclusive in-game content, including the Forsworn Trooper Outfit. GameSpot notes that Disney's CEO, Josh D'Amaro, is a strong believer in the potential of video games and has been leading the company's investment and collaboration with Epic Games. D'Amaro has also hinted at future possibilities, such as buying Disney Cruise Line tickets or watching Disney movies within Fortnite.
