According to Disney, Kingdom Hearts is one of nine billion-dollar franchises under its video game banner, as stated in a blog post. This news comes ahead of a highly anticipated panel at D23, where Disney is expected to discuss Kingdom Hearts 4, as reported by IGN.
Disney's Disney Games Group portfolio includes these nine billion-dollar franchises, with more than half of them emerging in the last 12 years, Disney said. The company's games have driven an estimated $3.5 billion in consumer spend annually for the past four years, crossing $4 billion in the last fiscal year, according to Disney.
The inclusion of Kingdom Hearts on Disney's billion-dollar list may come as a surprise, given the relatively few mainline entries released since the game's debut in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, as noted by IGN. However, it suggests that Kingdom Hearts games perform well in terms of sales, contributing to the anticipation for Kingdom Hearts 4.
