Marvel Tokon nears 485,000 sales in its first week, analyst says

Alinea Analytics estimates the Arc System Works fighting game sold about 485,000 copies across PS5 and PC, with PS5 taking three quarters of them.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls sold roughly 485,000 copies in about a week, according to sales estimates from Alinea Analytics reported by Eurogamer. The figure covers PlayStation 5 and PC combined, and represents a solid opening for a fighting game rather than a blockbuster one.

The estimates come from Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, who posted the findings on social media. These are modelled estimates from a third-party analytics firm, not figures published by the game's developer or publisher.

The platform split

Elliott puts PlayStation 5 at 74 percent of those sales, with Steam accounting for the remaining 26 percent. He attributes the gap to two things: fighting games have historically performed better on console than on PC, and the PC version of Marvel Tokon shipped with performance problems that were widely reported at launch.

Elliott's view is that those technical problems cut the game's word of mouth short, and he speculates that Marvel Tokon could have sold closer to one million copies without them. That is an analyst's counterfactual rather than a measured figure, and it depends on assumptions about how much of the PC audience was deterred.

Where the players are

On regional distribution, Elliott reports that North America accounts for around 75 percent of the Marvel Tokon player base, a concentration that leaves considerable room for the game to grow elsewhere if it holds its audience.

Alinea's player-overlap data also indicates that a large share of Marvel Tokon players on PS5 have played other fighting games and other Marvel titles, which points to the game drawing from both the genre's existing audience and the wider Marvel one. Fighting games tend to sell steadily over long periods rather than front-loading, so a first-week estimate is an early marker rather than a settled verdict on how the game performs.
