The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) announced on September 16 that Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami will receive its Hall of Fame Award. According to IGN, the induction will take place at the 30th annual D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony on February 18, 2027.
Goichi Suda, known as SUDA51 and the head of Grasshopper Manufacture, will present the award. IGN reported that the AIAS described Suda as Mikami's close friend and creative collaborator. In his statement, Suda said he learned how to approach game development from Mikami, both as a director and as a designer, and called himself one of the many developers Mikami has mentored.
Mikami's career spans more than 30 years. GamesIndustry.biz noted that he created several long-running properties for Capcom and other companies, and both outlets listed Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, The Evil Within, Hi-Fi Rush and Ghostwire: Tokyo among his credits. IGN's list also included Dino Crisis and Vanquish. The AIAS described him as passionate about building creative environments in which the next generation of developers can thrive.
Shinji Mikami is a monumental and influential figure for both fans and developers alike.
Scavio said Mikami's originality and creative vision have influenced the action game genre, and that the academy was honored to induct him during the 30th anniversary of the D.I.C.E. Awards.
Mikami currently serves as creative director and CEO of Unbound Inc. IGN reported that Stellar Blade developer Shift Up acquired Unbound earlier this year and that the studio is working on an unannounced game.
He joins a list of recent Hall of Fame inductees that includes former Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells, honored at the 2026 ceremony, and Insomniac Games founder Ted Price, the 2025 recipient. Earlier inductees named by both outlets include composer Koji Kondo, Double Fine head Tim Schafer, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon and former PlayStation production head Connie Booth. IGN's list also included Bonnie Ross in 2019 and Todd Howard in 2017.
