Gameplay footage from Star Wars: Magellan, the cancelled action RPG developed by the now-shuttered Echtra Games, has appeared online years after the project was abandoned, Eurogamer reported.
The footage was uploaded by a former developer on the project, according to MP1st, and shows a range of characters including a Jedi and a Mandalorian fighting their way through hordes of enemies. The game looked to be a loot-centric experience, with those enemies dropping gear and equipment of various rarities.
Each character appears to have a dedicated set of skills as well as a small selection of available weapons. MP1st also claims the game would have featured an "NPC Bond" system, allowing players to form deeper relationships with certain characters involved in the story.
A project that never surfaced
Star Wars: Magellan was intended for PC and modern consoles including PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Echtra Games was acquired by Zynga in 2021, and development of a then-unnamed action RPG began that same year, meaning the project ran for roughly four years inside the publisher. Little to no information about it emerged in the years that followed, and the game was never shown publicly before its cancellation.
Zynga closed Echtra Games in June 2025. In a statement offered to press at the time, a Zynga spokesperson said:
Zynga has made the difficult decision to cease operations at its Echtra studio, ending development on future titles and reducing roles. This decision is part of a strategic realignment of the company's resources and priorities. We will work closely with impacted employees so they are treated with the utmost respect and consideration as we navigate this difficult process.
The Echtra team had previously released Torchlight 3, a game Eurogamer describes as far from perfect at launch but one with real heart behind it, which makes the unfinished Magellan footage a bittersweet look at what the studio was working on when it closed.
