Riot Games will release Teamfight Tactics Set 18: Enchanted Wilds on Aug. 26 on PC and mobile, alongside TFT patch 18.1, Esports.gg reports after previewing the set. The update introduces new champions, traits and cosmetics, and a new mechanic called Wisps.
The structural change matters more than the theme. Enchanted Wilds follows Set 17: Space Gods, but for a limited period both sets will be playable at the same time rather than the outgoing set being cycled out at launch.
While we typically cycle sets out when a new one comes in, we're currently exploring options to keep multiple sets live at the same time across both Hextech and Unreal. That means both Space Gods and Enchanted Wilds will be playable in the League client for a limited time.
The set itself takes players into a magical forest and is built around the idea of a living, reactive environment, with Wisps giving players extra options during a match. Wisps are an updated version of the Charms mechanic from Set 12: single-use power sources that can grant combat benefits, resources such as XP and gold, or high-risk, high-reward effects. Players can buy one Wisp per round, and they appear in every other shop in the rightmost slot.
As the game progresses, Wisps tend to get more powerful. And more powerful Wisps also cost more!
Traits in Enchanted Wilds include Blossom, Riftbeast, Covern, Elderwood, Sprykin, Blackthorn and Inferno. Some traits are attached to a single champion rather than a group, among them Emerald Aspect and Bounty Seeker.
Set 18 is already running on the public beta environment. Virtue and game director Peter Whalen said the PBE period has been used to work on visual quality, game feel and crash reports, and that the team is prioritising bugs that affect gameplay before turning to smaller bugs and polish. Patch 18.1 brings the set to live servers on Aug. 26.
