Paralives redesigns its babies and clears the dead Paras off the streets

The life sim's latest early access patch also raises average lifespans from 98 to 112 days, lets friends move in together, and gives the town of Melino street addresses.

Paralives has redesigned its babies in its latest early access update, replacing the infant models a number of players complained about. Rock Paper Shotgun reports the new versions look considerably more baby-like than the homunculus-shaped originals they replace, making the change one of the clearest cases so far of the life sim reworking art in response to early access feedback.

Babies also arrive differently. Rather than appearing, as the patch describes it, "unceremoniously on the pavement," newborns are now delivered directly into a Para's arms.

The bulk of the patch goes to relationships. Friends and family members can now hug one another, and friends who reach a high enough friendship level can move in together. Players can assign a Para to a specific side of the bed, and clicking on a bed or on another Para can start romantic interactions ranging from kissing to sex.

The rest of the update tidies up the life sim's world and its long-standing quality-of-life gaps:

  • Melino, the game's town, now has street names and addresses so players can tell lots apart.
  • Townies can be shown on the town map through an optional toggle.
  • Average Para lifespan rises from 98 days to 112.
  • Dead Paras no longer remain lying in the street for days on end.
  • New floor textures are available for decorating.
  • Dorfromantik joins the list of games Paras can play.

The lifespan change is the most consequential of that group for existing saves. Raising the average from 98 to 112 days adds two weeks to a Para's run, roughly a 14 percent extension, which slows the rate at which households cycle through generations.

The street names and addresses answer a navigation complaint rather than adding content: until now Melino's lots had no readable identifiers, and the optional townie layer on the town map makes it easier to see where other characters are without opening each household. Paralives remains in early access, and the developers have published full patch notes covering the rest of the changes.
