PUBG Mobile is getting a second, lighter app. PUBG Mobile Light was announced on the game's official channels as a new app arriving later in 2026, with pre-registration opening on August 25 on both Android and iOS, Dot Esports reports. The app will be free to download on both platforms.
A lighter way to enter the original Battle Royale, joining the PUBG MOBILE family.
The name invites an obvious comparison, and Dot Esports is careful to draw the line. PUBG Mobile Lite, which already exists, is a separate version of the game built around smaller maps and reduced player counts. Light is not that. It keeps players inside the main PUBG Mobile ecosystem rather than splitting them into a parallel, cut-down game.
What changes instead is the install. According to Dot Esports, Light trims the initial download and then lets players choose which additional resources are actually installed, rather than pulling the full package down before the first match. The saving is in storage and setup time, not in the size of the match.
That framing puts the app squarely at the install barrier rather than at the gameplay one. PUBG Mobile has accumulated years of maps, modes and seasonal content, and the download that comes with it is a real cost on the mid-range and entry-level phones that make up much of the game's audience in South and Southeast Asia.
Several details are still outstanding. The announcement did not state the client's download size, which maps and modes are available at launch, whether accounts and progression carry across from the standard client, or a firm release date beyond the 2026 window. Pre-registration opening on August 25 is the next fixed point.
